Over a Century of Service

In 1919, Cyril Deal, the son of a local farmer, had a rather ambitious idea: to open his own garage, so his father bought a few local fields to give his son the chance to make his dream a reality. Cyril named his new business the Railway Garage, reflecting its position alongside Kelvedon Station. There was of course sensible farming logic behind this: if the garage didn't work out, the land would simply become part of the farm. 

Over the years, the Railway Garage steadily grew with the changing needs of Kelvedon. The site expanded, the cars evolved and the business moved forward, but its place beside the railway remained. What began as one man's dream became a long-standing part of the local community, serving generations of drivers from Kelvedon and the surrounding villages. And needless to say the site never did become farm land again. 

More than 100 years later, the world around the Railway Garage has changed considerably, yet the Railway Garage has stood fast, continuing to offer the straightforward, dependable service that has been at the heart of the business since 1919. 

A New Chapter

In 2026, for the first time in its history, the Railway Garage changed hands. Today, the business is owned and run by Emily Sullivan and her dad.

While the names behind the business may have changed, the principle remains the same: a family-run, independent garage, looking after local drivers and continuing the story of the Railway Garage for the next generation.
